PlanetKnowHow, a dot-com company created by Pony Computer founder and chairman Joseph Chou, has launched a new service that puts personal computers--complete with a customized web page and Internet connection--in physician waiting rooms for patient use.
The "While You Are Waiting Program" enables patients to utilize time spent in a waiting room checking stock quotes, reading up on health information, or shopping online with a "PlanetPC" personal computer.
"This program is a valuable waiting-area service for patients that positions a physician as both patient-focused and state-of-the-art," says Mr. Chou.
The While You Are Waiting program equips the waiting room of a physician's office with a stationary or portable personal computer and a customized web page for the physician designed by PlanetKnowHow Internet professionals. In addition to information on the doctor's practice, the PlanetPC will offer links to other qualified medical information sites and the ability to surf the Internet. The service is totally free to both physicians and patients. Fully serviced and maintenance-free, the program also gives contracting physicians the opportunity to participate in e-commerce sharing.
"We use the latest software and technology to control content and maintain a family-oriented atmosphere," says Mr. Chou. "This program is a win-win for physicians and patients."
The company also markets public Internet access to other service providers and businesses, including automobile service centers and airports.
In mid-September, PlanetKnowHow will launch a dynamic "how-to" web site offering intelligent information and resources to accomplish virtually any task. Through its site PlanetKnowHow.com, which will eventually be published in four languages, the Internet start-up will provide turnkey e-commerce programs with both business-to-business and business-to-consumer business solutions.
